[Adventure] The Lewton Bus by Lee Williams

A 1st Edition Scenario by Lee Williams

I never was much of a flyer myself, preferring to drive despite the crappy state of the highways and the higher risk factor. At least if you’re on the ground, you can try to run away, right?

This time we had to get there soon-as, so it had to be a plane ride. When the pilot announced we had to make an unexpected night-time stopover due to “unforeseen issues”, I was glad to get my feet back on the sweet Earth for a little while.

Looking back, maybe I shouldn’t have been so damn happy about that…

[Tabloid] The Hitchhikers

A Tabloid Article by Linden Dunham

An isolated stretch of road passes close to an area of woodland. In the evenings, as dusk falls,  two women can often be seen standing in the trees.  They are both young and attractive if dressed rather eccentrically in long black cloaks and dresses that seem to hark back to the Victorian era. They seem to be waiting for something, or someone. Eventually one, or both of them steps out of the woods and flags down a passing car and asks the driver, usually a lone male, for a lift to their home nearby. The driver usually agrees and takes them to their destination – a mouldering Victorian mansion situated in its own grounds on the other side of the woods down a narrow lane leading off the main road. On arrival at the house the driver is invited inside, with the implied promise of being shown a good time. If they accept, and they generally do, they are never heard from again.

[Darklings] The Pale

You know what riles me up the most? Rumour has it that a couple of FBI guys caught themselves a Pale. A young one, I’m guessing as it walked straight into their trap. Of course, the Feds didn’t know what to make of a heat sucker like a Pale and ended up killing the damned thing in a bath of boiling water. God damn it, the best chance in decades to understand what these things want with us, and these two meatheads cook it like some sort of lobster. I’m telling ya, that rumour better not be true or I’ll be royally pissed!

===========================

The Pale (n.) Darklings driven by their need for ambient warmth. Hunters with desires that cannot be satiated by blood or terror. But what are the Pale, and why are they in our dimension?

While the Dark Conspiracy rulebook details how these creatures work mechanically (see page 226 of the 1st edition rulebook, or page 221 in Dark Conspiracy Rules), it never examines much beyond the basics. So where do the Pale come from, how do they survive and what motivates them to hunt in our reality?

This article is the first of an ongoing series examining some of the most iconic and unique Darklings created for Dark Conspiracy. Each new entry will explore further ideas, motivations and goals for the threat, hopefully helping potential Referees bring them life at the game table. However, as nothing is ever as it seems in Dark Conspiracy, each one of these entries will provide a range of information, leads and ‘facts’ about the creature, leaving it up to the Referee and players to determine which, if any, are true…
