Just a bit of version updates and code management, so please excuse if anything looks different. I've ensured that the site remains supportable and up to date!

Review of Acute Care

Felt like I needed to do something Dark Conspiracy on this cold, wet winter's day (here in the southern Hemisphere). So, here's a brief review of 'Acute Care', a DC 3rd edition scenario written by our own Dave Schuey and published by 3 Hombres!

Good review Marcus.
I was quite interested in running this "scenario" when I first glanced through it, it reminded me of the Danish TV series The Kingdom (remade for the US as Kingdom Hospital) but at the time I felt it was not quite coherent enough for a single adventure. It wasn't until reading it through properly that I figured out that it was not meant as a single scenario but as a setting for many, interconnected scenarios.
I'd still like to run some scenarios using the material but I'm still trying to get my game group to give DC a shot. :(

Interesting comments from Dave - the author - over on the Facebook DC page (in response to my link to the review)... he wanted to add more but was limited by the publisher on word count. Also he wanted to add more of the 'environment' detail but again couldn't given the constraints.

Interesting...

It's actually quite scary but I don't recall why it was decided that the book should be of a certain size, That said, it is possible that I wasn't consulted about such matters - I genuinely don't remember though so I'm not going to cast aspersions. I do remember that we were going to put out a bunch of stuff that was comparable in size to the old GDW folio adventures, 16 or 32 pages with shorter scenarios bundled together like Ice Daemon & Nightsider were. Now I look back at the things 3HG did release I see that literally none of them conform to that page count :?

Personally, I wish I could get some more of that creativity going - seems to be getting harder with age!

That's very interesting.
Damn shame that Dave couldn't add the material he wanted, seems like it would have been a hell of a ride!

Any chance of persuading Mr Schuey to release the unseen material for publication in another outlet e.g.Dark Times?

Good call, I wish i had thought of that!
If it's at all possible that he would consider posting it (assuming he still has the material), I would also be very interested in seeing it.

A round of updates and changes, most invisible, some quite obvious.
  • New Home Page/Site Banner, which I think looks quite nice
  • New Banner for the Second Edition and FIddleback Trilogy Catalogue pages
  • Changed the spacing of the text slightly across the entire site, which makes it easy to read on larger monitors
  • Added a first attempt at a better 'Read More' graphic on the category pages
  • Various other little tweaks...
Do shout out if you see any problems...

Tried to download the updated Redview scenario and I'm getting no response (and no option to "save link as" either). Trying to open it in another tab just gives me a blank page although the url appears to be all fine and well. :(

Actually I have to be honest and say I'm not a fan of the new homepage/site banner thing. I'm totally fine with one image or the other, but it's not working for me personally with the split.

Fixed now! Was a fatfinger issue where I miss copied the URL. Make sure you refresh your browser's cache (Ctrl-F5) before trying again :P

Thanks! I knew it wouldn't work for everyone... but for right now I really like it :P

Enjoyed the article about music Marcus, some good thoughts there. Dan Le Sac and Boards of Canada sometimes get played on my station of choice, BBC 6 Music, so I was already aware of them. I totally agree that the NIN "Ghosts" albums have a lot that can add atmosphere to a game in our preferred style, particularly "Locusts".

As for the "They Live" soundtrack, I reckon nothing fits Dark Conspiracy better. You mention the influences the movie had on the game's development, but you left out the sunglasses thing - Serengeti Vermillions anyone? 8) I also feel that music of the type that Carpenter makes is great for mood because it has that vibe of "this is the future seen from 30 years ago" which is definitely a DC thing!

I could probably go on for days about music but I'll keep this as short as possible for now. First up, a compilation album by various artists of Carpenter-inspired synthwave called Retro Promenade is available for free on Bandcamp and is pretty convincing. Second, long-time Dark Conspirator Tim Bisaillon sometimes makes music just for fun, and it's cool to have something from a friend available for gaming purposes don't you think :)

More music thoughts from me to follow...
