Other GDW Stuff

I just wonder which other GDW stuff (besides the Infantry Weapons of the World) you guys are using when running a DC campaign. Do you use T2K to flesh out military careers? Or the rules for lifestyle and reknown from the Merc:2000 book? Does anyboy know who owns the rights of the other GDW stuff? Can rules form other games incorporated into the new DC?

I must say I really can not imagine someone playing DC without the Infantry Weapons of the World. Anyways...there is alwas 'No'.

93games studio has the license for Twilight 2K.

Aside from the infantry weapons book I also use the Heavy Weapons handbook and the twilight nightmares (?). I have borrowed some stuff from a buddy of mine who has a decent amount of the T2K material.

I had seen the MERC books but never picked them up.

It is somewhat interesting for DC. Some equipment, some floorplans. It is good to have but Special Operations is more useful.

Who owns the rights to Twilight: 2000

As an update on this topic, Far Future Enterprises (FFE) owns the rights to all the Twilight stuff and have for some time. 93 Games licenced it and they sure as hell don't seem to be doing much with it... sounds like Tantalus all over again.

FFE have all of the 2nd edition material on CD-ROM and within the next month or so, should be putting out all the 1st Ed material on CD-ROM as well. I have the 2nd Ed CD and if you're interested in a review, check out http://forums.rpghost.com/showthread.php?t=51471

Anyways, for FFE, go to: -

They also do the Traveller material but keep in mind that FFE is basically a small operation consisting mainly of Marc Miller so some things are still coming. Unless someone from TGC knows better, I don't think Mr Miller has the rights to DC.

I also use Fire Fusion and Steel, Dinosaurs and Cadillacs, and Traveller:The New Era.

FF&S, I use to design deathrays and Grey DarkTek as well as advanced corp-tech.

C&D, I use for the dinosaurs. These I use as a starting point for largish dark lords / beasties.

TNE, I use for the beastie design rules. When I need stats behind a concept, these snap right in. I have also been known to use the Robot rules.

It is difficult to use the vehicle books from T2K since they are a bit dated now. But they often serve as basis for designs.

Hell yes! They indeed are. But the good thing is the economic collapse of DC which allowes the GM to use some of them outside the poorest countries.

The current concept for the military and its role in the "collapse" is that the bulk of the armed services is a mostly conscript force (National Service draftees) that serves garrison in the US. The military provides a lot of security between urban metroplexes. And while it is not as bad as in the US of Judge Dredd, in some areas security is desperately needed, minions aside. I envisioned military districts (which we have now, but no one knows about) operating mostly independently from state and local governments. But I am not sure that will make it into the book. The districts would have military governors that provide engineering, road & bridge maintenance, riverine enforcement, convoy protection, some health services, fuel & energy, and other benefits of civilization to an ignored rural population. As draftees and national guard/reserve personnel, they are not hostile to the locals, but instead, mostly welcomed. There is some graft and corruption, but little in the way of direct or large-scale conspiracy (but that is my view and other GMs are a bit more devious).

Now. There is a segment of the armed forces that has maintained a high degree of technology development. Comprised of specialist units (spec ops plus), they ARE susceptible to conspiracy, Being the vestiges of the Regular forces, commanding generals / admirals are typically drawn from their ranks. These specialist units enjoy benefits of better technology and support. They also have a higher incidence of dying in the line of duty, since they are sent in to preserve the peace and battle terror.

So while a PCs HMMV full of weapons and teammates might convoy under the auspices of a military convoy leader, that leader might not know that the convoy will be attacked (because of the PCs) by a SpecOps operating under the same flag.

So I recant. In DC3, T2K vehicle books would be most useful for the National Guard/Reserve.
