Dark Conspiracy Savage Worlds style

Post by Marcus Bone »

Hi All,

After a long and hard look at the material we had left after the license for DC 3e was lost, I've finally come up with a solution - produce a DC like game using the fan license for Savage Worlds.

As most of the text in 3e was my own, I am slowly reworking it into a new format that I call 'Future Dawns'. FD replicates much of what I wanted to see in 3e and moves away considerably for the basics of DC (which is good as IP issues are the last thing I want!).

Anyway, if anyone is interested in looking at the results as the stand and also do some peer reviewing, feel free to drop me a line at marcus(dot)bone(at)xtra(dot)co(dot)nz...

Cheers,

Marcus

*bump*

Eep, I meant to post a comment about this the other day when I posted the link to Allen Varney's review of DC from back in 1991 but I was at work and -gasp- had to do some work instead of surf 'teh intor-webs'

I think most of us would be very happy to see your material Marcus :D
I'm particularly interested in the world background and the way technology is incorporated into the different social strata because I take a different view on these things in DC for my own campaign compared to what the DC book says.
I've had slight exposure to the Savage Worlds system but generally found it quick to play compared to some other rules and its rules seem very open for individual GMs to expand if needed.

It's a real downer that DC 3rd Ed. didn't get to the printshop but as John Lennon said, life is what happens when you're busy making other plans. Knowing of the interest and desire that motivated the 3rd edition in the first place, I think it would be a bigger shame if all the work put into it didn't get a chance to see the light of day.
Even if I don't use the rules, I'd happily purchase a copy of Future Dawns in hardcopy or pdf for the opportunity to see all that work.
It's not whether you win or lose,

It's whether I win...

Obviously I am in a bit of a privileged position, having been on Marcus's DC3 project and having seen much of the new text and artwork that was done. I think going down the Savage Worlds fan route is a fine idea...especially since Protodimension magazine already has permission from Shane Hensley himself to cover SW :D

That's two new things to look forward to!

Well actually the basics will be free. I really don't have the rep in the SW world to get a license (free although they are) from Mr Hensley without something to back it up.

So, my approach is to release a basic version of the setting and rules as a Fan project, and quite unashamably leverage off that to see if I can release the project as a proper SW setting.

We will see...

Shane's a good guy :D First time I ever contacted him all I did was mention how many extra dice, playing cards & poker chips I had to buy when Deadlands first came out and all was well!

Rumor has it that DC3 was to come up with some of the best healing and psychology rules. It would be a shame if they would just vanish. I hope that the project will go on. Reminds me of the days when Spielberg could not make a Bond movie and created Indiana Jones instead. Quite possible that FD will turn out even better than DC3 would have.

Hells Bells - you shame me... :P

FD will have some of the DC 3e psych rules, but the main aim is to get a cut down version of the game out ASAP and then see where it takes us...

At least the world will finally get to see some of what you have in mind Marcus, which is a good thing! :)

Bumping this up... On FB, I was the one interested in looking into doing DC in Savage Worlds as I know Clint Black and Shane Hensley. But it appears to already have been done to some respect. I was wondering what the status of this is?

I bought the new Conspiracy Rules and of course love the old school feel of it but I want to run it at a cona nd I do nto think running the old school rules is going to fly for todays con gamers. So I am leaning towards running the setting in Savage Worlds.

Marcus, do you still ahve your write up?

Hi Ron, just to let you know that another former Demonground guy Geoff Skellams is working on a home-brew SW version called Savage Conspiracy, which will probably be in the next issue of Protodimension. That may be useful to you :)

The group I was in when it first came out played it a lot, and Hell On Earth too :D
