There's a follow up article here. Paper sent a reporter to investigate. Didn't find anything though.

Also gates work due to the fabric of reality being worn thin, moving may only result in a huge power bill and a light show for the PC's. If the lab is in a spot where it will work have thier HQ taken over when thier away! The possibilities for reaping what they sow are multiple!

Oh yes, I'm a great believer in that. A couple of characters in my campaign can dimension walk and they've done quite a lot of rapid transit via the quantum dimensions. It's great until they get a catastrophic fail roll: A Glimmering materialising in their vicinity might make them more cautious in future.

If the gate's owner could use it to transmit an empathic signal to those with little to no will? Crime, and odd, deviant behavior for Blank distance around the gate skyrocket. Cruelly making the PC's relize they are responsable.

That's a nice idea as well. Reading the Hellsgate adventure it's pretty much what the Great Dark One does anyway i.e. it exists on the other side of the Io gate but it can still control its hapless alien servants, presumably via its powerful empathic abilities. No reason why other Dark Ones can't do the same, albeit to a more limited degree.

That hum thing? It's back. Maybe it never really went away...

It never really went away. That hum noise? That's the sound of the gate recharging

Yes, that must be it! Could be a DC adventure right there.

Instead of shutting down the gate, the PC's have damaged it and changed the protodimension it accesses. If done right, they may believe that the devecives dials up protodimensions, let chaos ensue when the gate repares itself. Also two dueling demongrounds ought to give plenty of headaches!

It's happening near where I live. Mind you, I've always suspected Leominster of being a demonground.

Should be easy to design an adventure!

That hum noise? Seems it's not alien gates to other dimensions recharging themselves after all.
Seems it's just male toadfish looking for a one-nighter with sexy female toadfish.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstop ... -fish.html

Maybe the male toadfish are not calling females though, maybe they're linked to the Deep Ones and are sending them messages? Maybe they're involved in a ritual to raise some Elder thing from its watery tomb?

Doesn't explain why the hum also happens in places that don't have saltwater rivers though...

Dark tek is often organic.

Good point and you know, with a Dark Tek cloner, you could make thousands of male toadfish to generate the noise...

That would explain the huge flocks of "Whipporwill" birds at the old homestead, guess what they warbled all night long.... :x , stupid birds.....
