Amargosa Press Acquires Dark Conspiracy License

Amargosa Press has signed a multiyear licensing deal with GDW to create, support and publish a new edition of the Dark Conspiracy Tabletop Role-Playing Game.

Dark Conspiracy is a near future horror role-playing that was originally published by Games Design Workshop (GDW) in 1991, followed by a second edition in 1997 and a third in 2012. Most recently a new fourth edition was being developed by Clockwork Publishing before the company went into administration last year.

“It was important for us to make sure that the backers, artists and writers that had invested time and/or money in the Clockwork Publishing campaign were not left out of pocket. With this in mind we’re reviewing the work done to date under Clockwork Publishing and will be using as much as possible in the new Amargosa Press edition, making sure that the artists and authors are fully paid. All backers of Uhrwerks Game On Tabletop crowdfunding campaign will also receive copies of the new edition, and appropriate supplements, so they are not out of pocket. Amargosa Press has not, and will not, be receiving any money from the Game On Tabletop campaign but will be looking at supporting those backers, many of whom have been core supporters of Dark Conspiracy for ears, and will hopefully continue to be for years to come.”

“We have not put any provisional dates on the completion of the new rulebook, and supplements as yet, as we evaluate the existing manuscripts, art, and the plans that Clockwork Publishing had in place for the game. Obviously no work has taken place since Clockwork Publishing went into administration in June 2019, but we hope to move quickly now that the license has been agreed and assets have been transferred. Amargosa Press now also has access to the Game On Tabletop crowdfunding campaign platform so can keep backers updated directly going forward and build up engagement with the community and fanbase.”

ABOUT AMARGOSA PRESS

Posted to the DC4 Game On Tabletop crowdfunder page:

Hi all,

Many thanks to Patric and the Clockwork Team for starting the project and bringing new life to Dark Conspiracy, even if things didn't go anywhere near as planned for them. Thanks also to all of you for backing the project here on Game On Tabletop and for still being here through thick and thin.

I'm here to finally announce that Dark Conspiracy has found a new home and we're planning on supporting all of you to make sure you get the game in your hands (or on your screens - depending on the levels you backed) and taking Dark Conspiracy forward.

I'm sure there will be a host of questions, but please bear with us whilst we find our feet with the project, the manuscripts and artwork, contact the authors and artists and finalise plans for getting the project finished and into your hands. If you'd like to drop me any questions on angus.abranson@gmail.com I'll collate them into a future post with answers so everyone can access them - a kind of mix between an AMA and a FAQ as such.

Thanks again for your patience and here's looking forward to getting some good hunting in...

Sounds like they've got a real mess to sort out, but are determined to do the right thing. Wish them all the best.

I just checked my email and got the same message and I see the news has already hit some of the sub-forums on Reddit (along with various websites devoted to gaming linking to the original release on Amargosa's Facebook page).
I've never heard of Amargosa Press before and while that of itself means nothing, I hope they have the stability to last long enough with DarkCon (considering the brief existence each edition has had).

And by way of coincidence, someone who had a website devoted to Twilight: 2000, Merc: 2000 and Dark Conspiracy and had been off the radar for several years has come back to the fold today. Some people here might recognize the name Antenna, a Swedish gamer who had (unsurprisingly) a lot of Scandinavian based material for those three GDW games (and I think also Cadillacs & Dinosaurs as well).

His website address is as follows and while he announced that his files have been restored, he's waiting on a password so he can access the files again, so there might be a little delay before the site is re-activated (and who knows, he may even move over to another service provider but I'll post that info should it come about): - https://www.ludd.ltu.se/~antenna/

P.S. I also posted this to the Dark Conspirators Discord.

NO! It's a secret :P

But seriously, it's the one Lee started up. I'm sure there was a link around here somewhere but if not, I think this link will work

Antti still drops me the occasional message and he did say he was considering reactivating his site, so that's cool to know 8)

And as of approximately an hour ago, his work is back online but on a new URL
Main page: http://www.twilight2000.one/
Index page (which is the second page you get to anyway but it's where the locations of the good stuff can be found!): http://www.twilight2000.one/index2.htm

There's material on his site that dates back to the early 2000s and there are a few names that some folks might recognize such as Eyal (can't recall his last name) who submitted material to Demonground way back when.
There's no updates and a number of the links to other sites are dead but these are his files from 2012 so that's understandable. A big part of my interest in them is that they are something of a snapshot of what the DC scene was like back then.

That would be Eyal Feingersch over in Israel. He's done the married with kids & mortgage thing in the intervening years :) He was quite a reasonable artist 20 years ago, but I doubt he draws much any more! He's on FB so I might drop him a line, see how he's doing.
