The main island in the article has apparently been furnished with multiple piers, a helipad and an extensive communications suite - by any stretch of the imagination, that's a bit more than the typical holiday spot requires.

So... what if the Russian owners of these properties are actually under the control of some Dark Lord, paving the way for a future invasion?

Good point - at some level any Dark incursion to Earth is going to need some money behind it.
