armoured vehicles and automatic weapons.
As the US military winds down it's operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, it has hundreds of mine-resistant vehicles that are now surplus to requirements and along with various items of weaponry, they have been typically offered to police departments around the USA under the auspices of the Department of Homeland Security.
This time however, some members of the public are a little more concerned, the police units getting this equipment are school police units. Gun crime is obviously a problem in the US but heavy armoured vehicles seems a little bit over-reactive to the percentage-wise, relatively small number of school gun crimes.
Perhaps they should spend the money on figuring out why the various stresses and strains of life in the US causes some members of society to snap?
