X-Files Season 11

Post by Marcus Bone »

I never watched this when it came out (back in 2018), as I was very disappointed by the shorter Season 10 (from the previous year), but had the pleasure of doing so recently during a bit of a binge watching session (while I was ill).

I have to say that it was a great season, with some real stand-out episodes. I like the more mature approach, and slightly darker vision of the stories (even in the more humorous ones). It really goes to show that shorter seasons allow the cream to rise to the top, and in some ways its a shame there won't be any more...

Worth a watch!

Great to get someone's take on these new seasons. I hadn't bothered with them because it seemed that they were an attempt to get more cash out of a dead franchise (although that perspective is probably more due to the lack of good advertising here in my part of the world).
Apparently I wasn't alone in that view as none of my friends or family who had previously watched The X-Files bothered to watch these new seasons.
I think also that the lacklustre performance of Season 10 probably (unfairly) turned some of us away from Season 11.

There are a couple of stand-outs, especially the Darrin Morgan ones (he always does humour well). The best are the 'Monster of the Week' episodes although 'Ghouli' is quite good as well. Funny that, as when I watched it's original run I always preferred the MotW shows, but moved to really liking the mythology ones better when I was able to skip directly to each one in order.

Then again I really only enjoyed the early seasons... it went south after the season 6 (The supersoldier stuff)...

That sounds a bit like my feelings about the show. I think for the earlier seasons, as much as I liked an over-arching plot, the monster of the week episodes were generally more interesting for me.
Once they got into the alien colonists, black liquid etc. etc., I started to lose some interest in the show. I can't even be sure that I saw much of season 8 but I'm pretty certain I never saw any of season 9.
