I no longer fear our future robot overlords

So all my worries about AI being ruthless and inhuman were for nothing. I no longer have to fear Skynet.
Japanese AI bot with the personality of teen develops depression.
And not just "depression" but apparently, suicidal depression.

Yep, you read that right and apparently it's not the first time an AI has developed crippling emotions*

* To be a little fair, the AI in question isn't the fearful AI of sci-fi and it was learnt behaviour - it learnt its bad behaviour from people deliberately trolling it.

And on a related note, how do you feel about an AI version of yourself that's available to friends and family after you die?

It's a long piece to read, but interesting for what it says about our ability to deal with death & grieving in the information age, an age where all the digital forms of communication actually make it easier to present different versions of yourself to different people - leading to a lot of us feeling disconnected from the real you when they find out there was so much more to you.
