Regarding the Future of Protodimension Magazine

Hi all, this is to let you know what is happening with PDM.

Norm Fenlason is ceasing publication of DCIII material and is also withdrawing from Protodimension magazine. He has been generous enough to entrust both the archives and the future of PDM to me, which I have of course agreed to. A few things are changing, the most important one being a new email address. This is for submissions, enquiries and private discussions and currently is only accessible by myself though I may well allow access to my close collaborators :)

protodimensionDOTmagazineATgmailDOTcom is the new address.

Secondly, the website will be migrating to a new host very soon. After this has been acheived there will be a redesign, and if submissions continue to be slow then new material will be issued on the website rather than wait months until there is enough to put a PDF together. If things pick up again, then there will be more PDFs - it depends on how much you good people send in!

That's all for now, thanks for being there.

So does that include the DCIII stuff in the pipeline? Do we flesh out details courtesy of the website and PDM?

Norm has pulled the DCIII material from DriveThru, so I don't know what's happening there. :/

More importantly from my point of view, he's not handing PDM over to me after all so basically, ignore my previous post on this thread. Therefore my previous plan of starting a new thing of my own is going ahead! 8)

Huh! OK, keep us in the loop! Did you get to keep all of your unpublished stuff? If the license comes up,would you attempt to take it on? Or will your New Project become the Dark Encyclopedia?

Yes, it's even gone from the purchased library!

Even from the purchased library? Ouch, that sucks big time :(
I've had problems in the past where I lost my digital copy of a game book because I didn't keep a backup... because I figured I could always go back to DriveThru and download it again.
Having the DCIII books pulled from our purchased libraries is actually kinda rude and a more than a little annoying considering that we paid for them.

So Lee, I guess that weapons supplement we worked on for DCIII is not likely to see the light of day now :(

My thoughts exactly and it undermines the whole process. Because Lee is too nice to say so, Norm has been an arse around this, especially with his reneging of offering Lee PDM. That's all I'll say on the matter, except to note that the phoenix comes from the fire...

Possibly not, I genuinely don't know and as he has asked me not to contact him again I'm just guessing here :? On a wider perspective I'd love to get my hands on the unreleased material he's sitting on. Someone else would need to contact him about it though.

If only we had managed to get all of the art together I could lay it out myself and approach Marc Miller. Paul Reigel-Green's Gear Up supplement was issued that way, and I believe that the massive Florida sourcebook is going to be released that way too. It was created by fans, not by Kinstaff/3HG so maybe there's still a chance. Also, the weapons stats remain the same in all editions so our thing isn't tied to DCIII...might be worth looking into.

On a personal note, I just recently patched things up with somebody I fell out with several years ago. Glad I did because they now work part-time at the local ale house! Since doing that, all this business has happened with Norm and now I have one less friend again. Anyway, it's not politeness - for me slagging Norm down wouldn't achieve anything except probably making myself sad.

Now, let's get this phoenix on the go! :D

I hope time heals, instead of festering the wounds. That said, let's move forward! A new mag, then perhaps an update to Infantry Weapons and Heavy Weapons, leaving us to ponder the high mil tek's title proposal!

I think the absolute worst thing to come out of removing the DCIII material from DriveThruRPG and the removal of past issues of PD from downloads, is that fans of DC are being alientated and will probably think twice about buying any DC items in the future.

As for PD, fortunately for me I have all the issues but for someone new coming to the ezine and wanting to download copies, they are shit outta luck. This is particularly frustrating for me personally because, in an effort to convince them to let me use some of their Roadside Picnic/S.T.A.L.K.E.R related material, I had directed a number of people to the PD downloads section because I had used or planned to use more of their material for future articles about The Zone as a Demonground.
However with a little digging I did find that at least 18 issues were archived by the internet Archive and can be found here https://archive.org/search.php?query=cr ... itleSorter

Lee in regards to the weapons supplement we co-authored, so far as I know, no payment was made for our work so technically we still have some control over it. I believe we could probably publish it without any legal problems because of this but I really doubt that it's worth arguing that point at this time however

As far as I am concerned you and I wrote and edited that text together. As I menioned previously maybe we could approach Marc Miller directly to publish it, like Paul Riegel-Green did with the "Gear Up!" supplement last year? :)

This Just In...

Yes, I deliberately chose that title.
While messing about in my DriveThruRPG/DriveThruComics libraries (specifically to re-download the Remnants comic series) I found that DriveThru has not blocked anyone who purchased DC III material from again downloading the item. If you purchased it, you will have to search your library with at least some part of the name of the DC III product.

For example, searching for "Conspiracy" does not locate the adventures Detour, Acute Care or This Just In or the Empathic Guide but it does locate: - Conspiracy Rules!, Conspiracy Rules Character Sheet and in my specific case, CORPS: Diceless Conspiracy Roleplaying.
While the link to the store page for individual DC III products will not work, the fact is, if you purchased any DC III products you can still access them from DriveThru. Yay 8)
And all this just minutes after I found the zip file of my original download of all the DC III books!
