Movie #29 - Old school! "Bride of Frankenstein" has both Doctor F and his creation surviving the events of the original movie. Deciding to turn his back on playing God, Frankenstein tries to settle down to married life. Along comes the totally raving Dr Pretorius who practically bullies Frankenstein into making a new creation, a female mate for the monster...

Well, you know the rest. I am still very impressed by the way those iconic images of Elsa Lanchester have found their way into the public conciousness, even though the awakened "bride" is on screen for about 3 minutes! 8) Tells you a lot about director James Whale's ability to get his vision onto the screen.

Hmm, I almost made it this year - does anyone think it's cheating if I add the next two movies I watch to the list so it make a total of 31? :D

Movie #30 - One of those TV movies that tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about it just by its title alone. "Bermuda Tentacles" has the POTUS bailing out of Air Force One in an escape pod which needs rescuing from a dangerous environment (sadly, this isn't Escape From New York). A rescue ship under the command of Linda 'Sarah Connor' Hamilton sets off to find the Prez, but unwittingly awakens a deep-sea monster thingy etc etc.

I have no idea why I put myself through this one! Even knowing it was a SyFy commission I wasn't expecting it to be quite so empty and devoid of substance.

In the interests of fair play I will say that Bermuda Tentacles would make a superb name for a Cyberpunk or RIFTS character

Haha! I've watched two movies from syfy and found them so bad I go out of my way to avoid watching anything else they've done.
Back when they were the Sci-Fi Channel they seemed to have a decent budget for such things as sets, graphics and most importantly, scripts! I'm not saying they were great movies but since the name change to syfy, their scripts have been particularly bad.

Speaking of Sci-Fi Channel, I watched one of theirs last night, a very average, made-for-tv movie called Phantom Force. A real B-grader but it has many DC associated elements - weird science, dimensions, artifacts, mysterious organizations, psychic powers and so on.

Apparently it was a spin-off from another movie that's also usable for DC, Interceptor Force 2 although I haven't seen this or it's predecessor, Interceptor Force. Both are known by other names such as Alien Interceptors so that gives you an idea of what they're about...
X-Com anyone?

The Interceptor Force movies star Olivier Gruner, an actor from some other DC-related movies that I'm sure have been mentioned somewhere here before!

Sometimes I think SYFY exists to launder Canadian, U.S. mob money.

And finally, only two weeks late (fanfare) - Movie #31! 8)

Dropping the horror for the final movie and going right for the Dark Conspiracy vein...the 2012 version of "Total Recall", which until now I had not got around to watching. There's a lot to borrow from here for gaming purposes as it happens: biotech, mindf*ckery, guns, violence, metroplexes. As a film, it's pretty good too although I felt it kept the same plot holes as the original Ahnuld version. Good casting and largely believeable performances, and a few nods to the original flick make it worth a look. Colin Farell makes a better Quaid than Arnie, and Kate Beckinsale's Lori is just plain scary as her character is an amalgamation of the Sharon Stone AND Michael Ironside roles from the old version

Phulish and Morthrai...
Yes and yes to both comments!

As an aside, I started calling syfy the syphillis channel because syf and syph have the same sound and frankly, the rubbish that they're producing these days is about as welcome as that disease. When I don't actively call it the syphillis channel I still say it as though it's spelt siff-ee channel. I just can't bring myself to associate the channel with sci-fi.

Is it SYFY that makes all those "Megashark" movies?

The sad and irritating thing about the SyFy channel movies is that they are just bad. Deliberately trying to make something so bad that it becomes a cult classic just doesn't work, it is usually either an accident or else the movie strikes something in the viewer's mind.

For the money they spent on these, they could have brought back Max Headroom 8)
