Re: DCtRPG.info Site Updates - December

Post by Marcus Bone »

And here comes December already!

This month is a little tabloid adventure seed, one that offers a variety of scenario ideas.

Sorry I'm running behind on my content for the site, but I've finally fixed up my review of Michael Stackpole's A Gathering Evil - the quintessential RPG novelization.

There's likely still a number of typos in the mix, but I'll get to these as and when I can - especially as I still owe everyone a February article (which will be on the Pale - a favourite Dark Minion of mine!)

DCtRPG.info - May Update! This time it is the start of another new series of articles lined up, focusing on diverse and interesting set-ups for Dark Conspiracy campaigns - no 'you meet a stranger in a tavern' clichés here please!

You can read it here - http://www.darkconspiracytherpg.info/20 ... ndustries/

I have a special love for this Trigger Event, as I'm calling them, as it was to be the setting/background for the first adventure (mini campaign) I had lined up for my The Gamer's Conglomerate's DCIII publication. I've still got 50 or so pages of notes floating about, and reading through them for this article definitely brings back fond memories...

Hi All,

Just a note to say that I've revamped the design of the DCtRPG.info site. Happy to hear any feedback...

An so it begins - the updates to the site structure given the possibilities of the new Wordpress template. You'll note that the menus are more dynamic which allows me to break up some of the content (i.e. the new page for the 1st Edition catalogue - http://www.darkconspiracytherpg.info/ga ... catalogue/ ).

Happy to hear any feedback on this stuff...

Just had a quick look at the 1st Edition Catalogue page and wanted to mention Far Future Enterprises included the promo video on their CD-ROM of the 1st Edition collection.
Unfortunately it's a low resolution copy and comes across as low budget as well but the elements of DC are there.

It can also be found on YouTube for those wanting to see it

I think people will recognize the person who posted the video :P

Never heard of him
Actually if memory serves the first time I saw that video was when Marcus sent me the clip some years back - I didn't even know it existed until then! When I got the CD-ROM collections I was happy to see it on there.

Don't thank me, thank Marc Miller. I was chatting to him around the time he was putting together the CD and he mentioned he had a copy of the video tape on the shelf behind him. I asked for a copy and he digitized it for me.

I still think it is weird that GDW a) spent money on a 5 minute promo and b) it actually got its own catalogue number!

Oh well, it is there for prosperity now!

Interestingly, it appears that they actually offered it for sale as well.
The entry for it on the CD-ROM has a small advert that I presume was on gaming literature/catelogues of the time. Unfortunately the image is quite small but it can be seen that the video had a product number of 2199 and a price of US$5.00.

I've got a copy of the image saved but I haven't got an account with any image sharing site yet so no picture just yet!

I am guessing here, but are the people in the video the GDW staff and friends? If so, who is who?

Keeping it in-house would have saved something on production costs :)

I'm betting it would be quite hard to tell nowdays.
The video does not show many faces in any sort of detail and for someone such as myself, the only GDW staff photos I've seen can be counted on one hand so I'd be hard pressed to match those with the indistinct figures in the vid!

But given the info to be gleaned from the interviews with Charles Gannon and Eric Haddock that Marcus was able to do, the overall impression I have of GDW is a small company with a big catalogue doing what they could to keep costs bearable so yeah, I agree that it's a good chance that the people in the vid were GDW staff, friends or family.

You know, with all news that 3Hombres was no longer functioning and the removal of DCIII from DriveThruRPG I was struck with a light bout of melancholy for a few days. I started to wish that I had gotten into gaming earlier than I had (I started in 1990) so that I might have had a chance to attend some of the important cons "back in the day".
I find now that a lot of gaming releases are really "light on", a hell of a lot of fantasty themed stuff that offers quick rewards from easy challenges so that it can all be finished in about three or four hours (or worse, one or two hours so it can be done on a lunchbreak) and I wistfully wish for the "old days" when I was gaming with a group of flexible size (anywhere between seven and eleven players depending on who was in town) and gaming went on from midday Saturday until about nine or ten in the evening.

Damn! With all that reminiscing I should write an opinion piece for Dragon magazine haha!

As an alternative, you could write a similar opinion piece for this new fanzine I heard of that's just starting out :D
