Another update.

This time an interview with an old friend and colleague, Geoff Skellams (http://www.darkconspiracytherpg.info/20 ... -skellams/).

I have other interviews lined up - from Norm Fenlason through to Lester Smith himself. I hope to talk to Mike Marchi at some point, and maybe even a few of the authors from first edition.

That's great news Marcus, I've long been interested in the voices behind the game so I look forward to the following interviews. Now it's time to go off and read the latest one!

"For me though, the system and its emphasis on combat and tactics are a MAJOR turnoff. I know it grew out of the GDW house system, which in turn is a thin RPG veneer over wargaming rules, but it kinda ruins a good game for me now."

I'd have to agree with that - I alway thought GDW's house system was closer to a skirmish wargame than an rpg. Great character generation system though...

Anyway, nice interview Marcus.

Another update - and it's another Tabloid. Here be Dragons has a special place in my heart, so please treat her kindly!

Don't expect me to keep this rate of additions up forever, but I've compiled all of the Dark Conspiracy articles appearing in Challenge Magazine over in the game index page.

http://www.darkconspiracytherpg.info/game-index/

I know that this list appears over at the Far Future Entertainment site, but I've done a bit of work to identify the type of article, its length and author.

As an aside, I enjoyed doing this as it brought back happy memories from when I read each issue first time round (oh so long ago...)

Lots of work there Marcus, I enjoyed the Here Be Dragons tabloid and I want to use it sometime soon in my own game :D

Guess who else was working on an in-depth list of old Challenge articles? ;) Good work!

Updated the Game Index list with everything I can recall being produced for DC. If anyone knows of anything more (either officially published or in a magazine), please let me know!

*Edit* Damn, have to add the character sheet pack from DPI (which included ammo sheets), and I suppose I should do a list for Demonground (duh)!

Marcus

An interesting setup, If I was running it I'd locate the action in East Anglia or possibly Wiltshire and go for the Worshippers of the Almighty Dragon option. The survivalists are Mother Earthers who have gone Igor.

Howdy All,

It felt like time for another review, but not quite knowing what to do (yes, I know I should be doing one for Dark Conspiracy Rules!) I looked back at the material I've started but for one reason or another not completed. As such I present the first in a series of reviews on the various adventures to appear in Challenge Magazine. First up Issues 53 to 56...

http://www.darkconspiracytherpg.info/20 ... ues-53-56/

As always comments are appreciated...

Edit - updated the intro to make some sense in English :P Well not too much sense... but better than it was.

I remember looking at all four of these when I was running my first DC campaign. Interesting to see someone else's views on them.

Grisly Harvest and Your Own Worst enemy both struck me as unplayable. Gnawlings looked promising but very much dependent on its New Orleans location and my campaign was set in the UK. I did run The Thing on the Bike Path but changed the Thing to a Ravager that had escaped ET control. Dr LaBossiere's penchant for contrived monsters has been discussed at length on these boards and elsewhere. That aside, a solid scenario eminently suitable as a one off in an ongoing campaign

Personally, I think that the good doctor's habit of creating new monsters was fine, bearing in mind that (after Cadillacs & Dinosaurs) DC was the least supported GDW game. I know Geoff Skellams isn't a fan of his stylr either. However, any issues that we DC fans may have are as nothing compared to the hour-long whinge I had to endure at Continuum once about Doctor Mike's Cthulhu output from a member of the Kult of Keepers...

I agree that it is a solid scenario and I have run it myself, with a few mods to suit my then-current game world. Many of his short scenarios are useful either as introductions to the game or one-off fillers in a longer campaign.

His CoC material is very much in the vein of quantity has a quality all of its own. There's a few diamonds in there but you do have to wade through a fair amount of dross. I mean, Ampharks? Why? What's wrong with Deep Ones? Some of his scenarios come in both DC and CoC versions which I think only emphasises his rather generic approach. I'm sure Marcus will get to one of the doctor's three Halloween Challenge DC scenarios that featured New England Ghouls . I will say though I got a good game out of that one by replacing the Cthulhoid knock offs with a Bhuta and its children.
