Don't know how I missed this, but this forum is now 10 years old (6 months older than my eldest son!!).

If I haven't said it before, let me say it now - I couldn't ask for a better group (albeit as small as it is) than you all.

While this forum has seen two or three incarnations (the latest only a few weeks old), it has remained a great place to meet and chat about one of our favourite RPGs. Original set up to support my friends and I's attempt to bring back Dark Conspiracy (something Norm, Lee and Tad have now done), it has since changed and adapted with the times, becoming, at least in my opinion, somewhat of an archive of DC's fortunes over the last decade.

So, here's to the next 10 years and more!

And it's never looked better! Wasn't sure about the new format at first but really like it now. We've had some good discussions lately as well. Long may it continue.

I agree, I've been gladdened with all the comments going on here at the moment, and if nothing else, it encourages me to write more DC stuff!

Only six more years and this forum is twenty years old

OMG... its the same age as my eldest son *shakes head*...

Interesting how the world has change - forums like this are a bit 'old school' now. I would like to move to something a little more 'low maintenance', but to be honest, as I've found out, I'm a little stuck with phpbb for the a while yet.

I might do some 'culling' of the sizes of the forums (back to what it was a few years back - DC, Other stuff, and Other Games).

I'm quite happy this forum has been around for so long, there's been a lot of other gaming related sites that have died but this one has weathered the years. I appreciate that people lose interest or move on to other pastimes and so on but I find too many of today's replacement for forums are not really that friendly or informative (or they quickly turn sour).
My gaming group here in Australia has tried a few and found how little is actually offered on those sites unless you want to spend money on "features".
With so many companies trying to profit from media on the internet, we often see forums, chat sites etc. etc. close down or get rolled into some other site because they are no longer profitable. Either that or people are quick to make sites for their fav thing at the moment but just as quick to abandon them.
It becomes really easy to lose contact with people on those sites when those things happen.
So yes, I'm happy that this site has lasted so long and I'm appreciative of the effort those of you behind the scenes have made to keep it going.

I see there's also been some logo tweaks going on. Looking good

I'd agree with that. UKRoleplayers over here in blighty was great for finding other gamers in your area. Since it closed nothing else has come close. I've found Facebook and Meetup to be a waste of time by and large.

At the moment the only cost is time, so its not too bad. However, at the moment it seems that us 4 are the only contributors.

I think that Facebook had definitely take over this type of social forum. Personally I find it shallow and repetitive, where nothing more than clicking 'like' or venting impotently about politics or life is all that matters. I actually find trying to provide any sort of real content is a waste of time - like shouting into the darkness... and don't get me started on Twitter, its even worse!

That's one of my problems with Facebook but the bigger issue for me (and this applies to other social media types likes Discord), is that if there's a lot of people posting, it's really easy to lose track of a specific thread (e.g. it gets shunted so far down the timeline that you have to search for ages to find the posts relevant to you).

That's not even considering the dilution of the member pool due to so many different platforms people can use so every man and his dog has a separate fan/"official"/unofficial site located somewhere. For example, there's I think, three Facebook groups for Twilight: 2000, plus at least one Discord server, a sub-forum on a sci-fi forum as well as a sub-forum I think on the the main Traveller forums along with the (probably best known) forum run by a guy called Kato. That's seven different platforms who are all pretty much saying the same thing but with lesser/greater degrees of effectiveness depending on the media type - looking at you Facebook as an example of less effective.

Call me old school but I really prefer a system that lets you find the threads either with a (relatively) quick visual check or if something more in depth is needed, the handy "search" bar found on most forums!

EDIT: It occurred to me after I hit submit for this post, that one of the things I desire in any social platform is the delivery of relevant information. With things like Twitter limiting how many words you can deliver per post requiring a massive dilution of the info to stay within that limit (requiring daisy chains of posts to list even a few paragraphs) or the utter banality of trivia on things like Facebook, I probably unconsciously choose not to join those sites because of the number of worthless posts on those platforms.
That, plus I consciously make an effort to not associate with people who think shit-posting, mindless trivia and false "facts" are important!

I don't really like Facebook groups, for much the same reasons as already mentioned, so am only member of a few. Even then the frequent posting by some members of idiotic and desperately unfunny memes is a particular bugbear of mine.

Twitter I don't have anything to do with. Don't find it remotely useful for anything, and I'm not particularly interested in what Stephen Fry's had for breakfast this morning.

Had some experience with Discord, don't find it very user friendly although in the current C19 crisis I am dipping my toe into the waters of online gaming, and it may prove handy for that.

Still prefer old skool forums for discussion about a particular game or topic.
