Re: Announcement Forthcoming?

Much of this process falls on me, but in the end, it also involves getting physical signatures on multiple documents across three continents. No mean feat in itself. I'm sure there's a Protodimension somewhere that's like a lost letter office but just full of contracts that mysteriously go missing ...

Re: Nasty Goings On in the New Forest

Don't know a huge amount about it but I have read some pagans and Satanists abhor killing animals and are even vegetarian as a result. This is just mindless yobbery I think rather than a case for Guy N Smith's Sabat. Still, would make a good hook for all sorts of games though. We've done DC but it w...

Re: Urban Nightmares - A 1st Edition Scenario

Not looked at this yet Marcus, but I will. The question of what makes Earth so special is a good one, whether it's Dark Conspiracy or Call of Cthulhu (Earth seems to be the Great Old Ones' holiday home).

Re: The Return of A/state

I know we talked about before but loved the settings, less enamoured of the game system. Used MiniSix in the end for my short Cold City campaign.

Re: The Return of A/state

I read about the original game when visiting Contested Ground's site for Cold City/Hot War material and to contribute to their forum. For some reason I got the impression it was more of a steam punk game. The new version looks interesting, slightly 80s retro style with those towerblocks?

Could be one of your more hard of thinking minions - an Ogre perhaps?

Nasty Goings On in the New Forest

Somebody going around slashing free roaming sheep in Hampshire. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/11/24/satanism-scare-stabbed-animals-found-new-forest/ I don't buy the Satanic connection, it probably is just a bunch of nasty delinquents. Lot of inbreeding in that part of the world and not all t...

Re: Inspirational Movies and TV for Dark Conspiracy

Yes, it's better than the basic premise suggests - I like some of the quirks, e.g. how the MIB types are portrayed as not-unsympathetic working men albeit with an extraordinary job, and how "Management" seems to be stuck in some post war time warp reminiscent of Terry Gilliam's "Brazi...

Re: Inspirational Movies and TV for Dark Conspiracy

The Adjustment Bureau : Would be congressman Matt Damon pursued across New York by MIB style agents intent on stopping his burgeoning romance with ballerina Emily Blunt. The agents are obviously part of an elaborate conspiracy - they work to carry out "the Plan" for a mysterious "Cha...

Re: A reason for Dark Conspiracy's retro-tech?

That's a really good analogy and one that's also particularly relevant because most of my gaming group have seen both movies a few times. Actually it's better than good, it's incredibly apt. Thanks again Linden, this is exactly why I wanted someone else's opinion. I'm not sure I can claim it as an ...

Re: A reason for Dark Conspiracy's retro-tech?

If you have no objections, I'm inclined to print out your list as a player handout when I try to pitch DC to my game group (you said what I wanted to say but much more succinctly, my list is paragraphs of waffling!) By all means, please do mate . My feeling is that both games are about a similar ki...

Re: A reason for Dark Conspiracy's retro-tech?

On a side note, for those of you who have played both Call of Cthulhu and Dark Conspiracy, what do you think are the differences between the two that make them distinct from each other? The reason I ask is that I have my ideas but I want to hear what others think. This has been prompted by a discus...

Re: A reason for Dark Conspiracy's retro-tech?

I've not run DC for a while but I think I'd be happy with the angle that technology has developed in a different way to the real world. For the reasons we've discussed. Also I think you could perhaps make a similar argument for retro-stylings of buildings, furniture and cars i.e. that art-deco and o...
