Cast A Deadly Spell has been on TV here in the UK. Think it was Channel 5, which is sort of like a satellite station, only on terrestrial.

A quick tootle around the imdb reveals that it's called Witch Hunt and directed by Paul Schrader of all people:

Seems to be a metaphorical examination of McCarthyism.

It's almost impossible to find, but another good flick is Cast a Deadly Spell . The setting is more film noir, and there is an unbelievable amount of Cthulhu influence (The main character is a private eye named H. Phillips Lovecraft) but it's still a pretty fun little movie with the hero fighting m...

And another one: Trancers.

Retro styling again, and what's barmy cult leader Martin Whistler if not a high level empath? Haven't seen the later sequels but I gather 4 and 5 feature dimensional travel. They're also supposed to be not very good?

London Orbital by Iain Sinclair. Not a novel, but a travelogue of the author's circumnavigation of the M25 motorway. Has a tendency to digress and go off at weird tangents, but gives an idea of how the future London is evolving: Characterless Mike/Prole housing built on old ammunition factories. Sem...

A couple more:

Brazil for the retro-tech stylings, and maybe the Orwellian storyline.

The Naked Lunch for the cockroach typewriter alone. Retro-ET/Dark Tek anyone? Is Lee working for the insectoid ETs but doesn't really know it? Also the Interzone, is it perhaps a proto-dimension?

Don't think anyone's mentioned Strange Days? It's got the chaotic breakdown of society, untrustworthy authorities, plus some rather peculiar technology i.e. the squid headsets.

One thing that occurred to me was that some of the monsters could do with some more background detail i.e. where they come from or how they were created e.g the Medusa in the main rulebook is described as a person with these strange attachments to their head. It doesn't really say why they'd have su...

Re: Dark Minions Revisited

Anyway, rather than make another poll I want you to let me know what Darklings you like and why. I am just interested in getting some feedback and opinions from our loyal fans, as it will prove useful during our continuing revision of the game to know what you think. I've said it before, ...

My personal favorite is one that I made up a while back. A little girl about 6-7 yrs old, blond curls, big blue eyes, ivory skin, pink frilly dress, white knee high socks, black shoes with a buckle, and holding a teddy bear. When the party encounters the little girl she is crying, dirty, and looks ...

That's what I like abut DC, the system is very easy and the combat system is not only easy but fast and deadly too. Funnily enough a lot of the criticism I see levelled at DC claims that it's: a) Too complex b) Not deadly enough (except for NPCs) I don't have a problem with b). As we've discussed p...

@Ivan: strange as in 'crap' or as in 'interesting'? Um...not interesting, but not sure if crap is the right word. Over-complex is the term I think I'd use. Also, and I'm not au fait with all of the various incarnations of D&D, but it seems to be something of a missed opportunity: Does a reasona...

We went so far off topic that I can already see AD&D somwhere...But it is the most active thread... Well, as I've mentioned, I certainly think it deserves its own thread. Er...Marcus...help? Second: Do you have experience with D20 CoC? I don't, although I have played a bit of D20 modern. Now, D...

Nope, I havn't seen it. But I'll look for it. Do you happen to know the publisher? Games Workshop or a new one? Underground by Marcus Rowland. Appeared in Games Workshop's Good Games Guide, a one off magazine which dates from the mid 80s. Might be worth trying ebay? The weakness of CoC lies in the ...
