I prefer point allocation because it prevents any player arguments stemming from "you got lucky on your rolls." With point allocation, all players are starting out the same.

Yeah, Dark Elves are Fey. But I like the Dark Elves alone much more than I like the whole group of Fey, so I chose Charon.

The main thing is, i like it when I can have the enemy running around the party and they naturally appear human. Much better to surprise your players with.

How about miniatures for tabletop gaming?

No matter what game my current game group plays, they like to have figures on the table to help them see combat sequences. Personally, I don't see a need for it, but others would disagree with me.
